Books on Futures

If people ask me for book recommendations on the topic of foresight and futures studies, I usually recommend two books to get started:

  1. Jennifer Gidley’s The Future: A very short Introduction is IMHO the best starting point to get a quick overview of the central aspects of futures thinking and futures studies.
  2. How to Future by Scott Smith and Madeline Ashby is the best introduction to actual futures work if you want to learn about the essential methods and how to apply them in your organization.
  3. The Image of the Future by Fred Polak is one of the most influential works in the field of Futures Studies. Its essential concept: Pull of the Future
